This morning the Taoiseach will be on hand to make a number of jobs announcements before gathering the cabinet in government buildings.

This meeting will focus on job creation and the Taoiseach will tell ministers it has to be their number one focus now.

Yesterday the Governor of the Central Bank predicted that employment will just barely begin to grow this year.

And with more than 430,000 people on the live register - unemployment at 14.6% is as bad as when the coalition came to office almost two years ago.

Enda Kenny wants his government to bring down that figure by putting job creation at the centre of decision making.

Next month the government will give a progress report on its action plan for jobs - in which it promised to create 100,000 new positions by 2016.

And unless real progress is made in loweing that unemployment figure - then todays cabinet meeting will be seen as little more than paying lip service to the problem.

Enda Kenny will tell his ministers today that he wants each of them to come up with job creation policies and to play their part in tackling the issue of unemployment.
