Cadaver dogs have alerted Gardaí to an area in a north Dublin park in their search for a missing Icelandic man.

Jon Jonsson had visited the city on holiday five years ago with his fiancé and played in a poker tournament.

He left the Bennington Hotel where he had been staying on February 9th, 2019, at 11am before heading towards the nearby Santry Demense Park.

Gardaí have been unable to establish his whereabouts since, despite following over 270 lines of inquiry.

Hope was given to the investigation yesterday after Gardaí received two anonymous correspondence that prompted a new search in Santry Dense Park.

Cadaver dogs have indicated to Gardaí today that an area of the park warranted further investigation and it has since been sealed off.

The Garda Technical Bureau has been notified and will carry out a forensic examination on the site.

Mr Jonsson’s siblings, Anna Hildur and David Karl, travelled to Dublin last week to join Gardaí as they search for their brother.
