The US has asked Russia for a 'concrete response' to plans for a diplomatic end to the crisis in Ukraine.

It follows a phone conversation between the US President Barack Obama and the Russian President Vladimir Putin last night.

There have been reports of thousands of Russian soldiers building up on Ukraine's eastern border in recent days.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon says he's had assurances they won't be deployed.
