There are calls for a memorial to be erected in Dublin for Luke Kelly, the much loved folk musician from Sheriff Street in Dublin and founding member of The Dubliners.
The 30th anniversary of his death takes place today and members of the public want to have the 'true son of Dublin' remembered and acknowledged in some way.

On June 30th 1980, while performing at the Cork Opera House, Luke collapsed on stage. He was diagnosed with a brain tumor. He received treatment and made a good recovery. He became ill on a tour of Switzerland and had to pull out. Luke died in hospital on January 30th 1984. He is buried in Glasnevin Cemetery in Dublin and bears the inscription: Luke Kelly – Dubliner.
A concert to celebrate his anniversary takes place tonight in Vicar Street, called The Legend Of Luke Kelly 30th Anniversary Concert.
