The Oscars is typically a back-slapping, star-studded affair where the great and the good of cinema are welcomed into Hollywood's hall of fame.
But not everyone will be in a jubilant mood as they grace the red carpet, as on Saturday, several celebrities were consigned to Hollywood's hall of shame - winning a Golden Raspberry Award for the worst achievements in film.
The low-key ceremony, known as "the Razzies", is rarely attended by movie stars - and it is little wonder why.
At a dingy theatre, Cameron Diaz (42) was given a worst actress award in absentia for her role in two raunchy comedies. One of them, 'Sex Tape', sees a couple accidentally publish an intimate home movie on the internet.
If she attended, she would have also walked away with a berry trophy, spray-painted in gold, for the modern-day version of 'Annie'. The film was declared as the worst remake, rip-off or sequel in the past year.
Does it really look that bad?
Kirk Cameron also felt the wrath of the 811 voting members at the Razzies, picking up four awards for Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas - a movie which pledged to "put the Christ back into Christmas".
The film had scored a perfect 0% on Rotten Tomatoes, with one critic claiming "even devout born-again Christians will find this hard to stomach".
Cameron won worst actor for his efforts, along with worst picture and worst screenplay. He even won the worst screen combo award - for him and his ego.
Michael Bay also came into the line of fire, and was handed the worst director gong. Even though his latest 'Transformers' film has grossed US$1bn worldwide, it didn't stop the Razzies from labelling it as "The Age of Ex-STINK-tion". Kelsey Grammer won worst supporting actor for his role in the blockbuster.
But it was not all doom and gloom at the 35th Razzies, with a new awards category proving that it is possible to bounce back after producing a flop.
Ben Affleck, who was christened worst actor in 2003 for Gigli, was handed a "Redeemer Award" for turning his career around - winning an Oscar for 'Argo' in 2012 and excelling in 'Gone Girl' opposite Rosamund Pike.
In the past, some movie stars have decided to take their cinematic car crashes on the chin, and attend the Razzies in person.
Back in 2010, Sandra Bullock turned up to accept the worst actress award for 'All About Steve' - a day before picking up a best actress gong at the Oscars.
She brought everyone in the Razzies audience a DVD of the flop, and said: "I will show up next year if you promise to watch the movie and really consider if it was truly the worst performance. If you're willing to watch, I'll come back next year and give back the Razzie."
