A Canadian broadcaster says it cut a Donald Trump cameo from Home Alone 2: Lost in New York in 2014 - insisting the edit was not politically motivated and was one of several cuts made to the film.
The original version of the 1992 sequel features a very short scene in which the main character Kevin (Macauly Culkin) encounters the then well-known businessman in the lobby of the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan.
It emerged in recent days that a version of the film shown on Canada's public broadcaster CBC earlier this month did not feature the sequence.
The omission prompted a reaction from both the US President and his son Donald Trump Jr.
However, CBC has now said the omission was among eight minutes of the film cut for their broadcast version of the movie several years ago.
Spokesperson Chuck Thompson explained: "As is often the case with feature films adapted for television, Home Alone 2 was edited for time.
"The scene with Donald Trump was one of several that were cut from the movie as none of them were integral to the plot.
"These edits were done in 2014, when we first acquired the film and before Mr Trump was elected president."
Donald Trump did not formally announce his presidential run until mid-2015, and was ultimately elected in November 2016.
Home Alone 2 is one of several films to feature a cameo from Mr Trump across TV and film - with other appearances in the likes of The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Two Weeks Notice and Zoolander.
