A candlelit vigil has been taking place in the Melbourne suburb of Brunswick to remember Jill Meagher.
Her family, friends and colleagues have been paying tribute to her as the girl ‘who lit up a room’ and was deeply loved by all who knew her.
Police investigating her murder recovered her body from a shallow grave about 50 kilometres northwest of the city.
41-year-old Adrian Ernest-Bayley was last night charged with her rape and murder.
Dozens of people have been laying candles and floral tributes outside the Brunswick Baptist Church close to where the Louth woman went missing on Friday.
Bayley has appeared in court this morning charged with her rape and murder.
The man who is from the Melbourne suburb of Coburg will appear in court again in January.
As the community comes to terms with her murder her family has thanked the Australian people for their support.
Speaking outside court this morning Jill’s husband Tom says he has been humbled by their support.
Today her colleagues at ABC in Melbourne have been remembering her as someone warmly loved by all who knew her.
Local Contact Manager at ABC Radio Cath Hurley interviewed Jill when she applied to work at the station.
She told ABC News that Jill left a lasting impression.
