Cannabis plants worth almost a quarter of a million euro have been seized in Carlow town.

Gardaí made the discovery at a house at Old Burrin in the town earlier today, as part of an ongoing operation into the cultivation of herbal cannabis in the Carlow area.

Officers found approximately 300 cannabis plants at various stages of growth, were seized with an estimated street value of €240,000.

A technical examination of the scene is underway and enquiries are ongoing. 

No arrests have been made.
