Cannabis worth €16 million was seized at Rosslare Europort, Co Wexford, yesterday.
Gardaí and Revenue officers found the drugs during risk profiling with the help of Revenue's x-ray scanner and sniffer dog Jasper.
They discovered 783kg of herbal cannabis and 70kg of cannabis resin when they stopped and searched an unaccompanied freight unit at Rosslare Europort.
The unit had disembarked a ferry from Bilbau in Spain.
No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing.
The drugs are now subject to analysis by Forensic Science Ireland (FSI).
The seizure is part of Revenue's ongoing operations targeting organised crime groups and the importation, sale and supply of illegal drugs.
On July 20th, Gardaí seized €8 million worth of cannabis, cocaine and other drugs from a home in north Dublin.
Dublin Metropolitan Region Assistant Commissioner Angela Willis said the drug seizure was a “major blow” to organised crime in Ireland.
On July 4th, Gardaí seized €1.6 million worth of cannabis in Blanchardstown, Dublin.
