A total of 74,499 CAO applications were sent in before the main deadline yesterday.
It is reportedly a record high for this point in the process - and represents a jump of 1,500 on the figure for last year.
Late applications can still be made online, up to May 1st, at a cost of €50 online or €80 by post.

The Change of Course Choices facility will be opened for registered applicants from February 5th until March 1st, for a €10 fee.
While the free Change of Mind facility will be open between May 5th and July 1st.
