Capel Street will go car-free from May 20th.
Dublin City Council has confirmed the official start date for the pedestrianisation north inner-city street.
Parking spaces will be removed from the street and cars will be banned as far as the junctions with Strand Street – with just deliveries permitted between 6am and 11am each morning.
It will make the street the longest car-free corridor in Dublin – longer than both Grafton and Henry Street.
We are delighted to announce that the traffic-free proposals for Capel Street will be implemented from Friday 20th May. #CapelSt #Dublin @DCCTraffic pic.twitter.com/bQMc0Y90mY

The move comes after a public consultation found 91% of people were in favour of it.
Despite the wide-spread public support, several businesses in the area have voiced opposition and threatened possible court action.
Traffic management staff will be on site for the first two weeks – and the changes will be reviewed at the end of the summer.
