A man (68) has been arrested after a car crashed through the gates of Trinity College in Dublin.

The incident happened at around 6.30 this morning.

A number of cars were damaged in the grounds of the college before a car exited through the closed college gates and proceeded up Dawson Street, damaging several other cars.

Gardaí stopped the car on Dawson Street and arrested the man.

He is being held at Store Street garda station in Dublin.
