A female tourist has been injured in a carjacking incident in Co Wicklow after stopping to help at the scene of a road collision. 

The woman was travelling in a German registered Mercedes car which happened on the scene of a crash between a black Volvo and a bus in Clara Vale, Rathdrum at 2.30 this afternoon.

A group of four men in the crashed Volvo then stole the Mercedes, and left at high speed. 

A female passenger in the Mercedes received slight injuries in the incident.

The vehicle left the scene in the direction of Glendalough and Gardaí are investigating reports that the Volvo car was involved in a burglary earlier in the Athy area of Carlow.

The black Mercedes has now been located in Tullow Co Carlow. The car has been preserved for technical examination.

There have been no arrests to date. A search is underway involving Gardai from Wicklow, Carlow and the Garda Air Support Unit.
