A car pulled over in Co Waterford on Thursday as part of a routine patrol was found to have a 13-year-old boy behind the wheel.
Gardaí said they decided to stop the car that passed them due to how "strikingly young looking" the driver appeared.
Officers then discovered that the driver was just 13, and the two passengers in the car were his parents.
Gardaí said his parents told them they were "just out for a spin."
The owner of the car is to be brought before the courts, and a Garda Juvenile Liaison Officer has been appointed to the boy.
In a post on social media, Gardaí reminded people to "have a bit of cop."
