A cargo plane has made an emergency landing at Shannon Airport this morning.

The Cargolux Boeing 747 was en route from Puerto Rico to Maastricht when it got into difficulty at around 5 am, while the aircraft was over Wales.

It is believed those on board feared there was a fire in the plane's cargo hold.

Emergency services were alerted, and two units from Ennis also traveled to Dromoland.

The plane landed safely at 6:10 this morning, and a spokesperson for Shannon says no one was injured in the incident.
