“If you can spare 45 minutes [on Tuesday] to attend Mass it would be great to see that a lady who lived to be nearly 90 will get a farewell from her adopted town of Carlow by the people of Carlow,” the statement said.
Following the request for mourners, the funeral mass at Askea Church was packed with the people of all ages showing up to lend their support.
Ms Regan’s body will now be brought to her native West Cork for burial at St Fachtna’s Church in Adrigole on Wednesday.
