A mother who claimed a security guard at a Primark shop in Britain removed her baby from her breast as she fed has appeared in court.

Caroline Starmer, who has four children, is accused of intending to pervert the course of justice.

The 28-year-old said she was assaulted in the Humberstone Gate store in Leicester on July 13th.

The claims were made on a 'free to feed' Facebook page, and attracted thousands of supporting messages.

Ms Starmer said a security guard had approached her and told her to stop breastfeeding, before forcibly removing her nine-month-old daughter Paige.

Appearing before the Leicester Magistrates' Court on Monday, she spoke only to confirm her name, address and date of birth.

The charge is an indictable only offence and so the case was transferred to a crown court.

Ms Starmer was granted unconditional bail and ordered to appear before Leicester Crown Court on September 22nd.
