The case relating to the murder of an elderly woman in Tipperary has been referred to GSOC.
Josephine ‘Joan’ Ray, aged 89, was found dead at her house in St Joseph's Park on the afternoon of Sunday, August 4th.
Her remains were taken to University Hospital Limerick for a post-mortem, and her death was upgraded to a murder investigation two days later.
Engaging with Gardaí
It is understood that Ms Ray had been engaging with Gardaí before her death, which they have now confirmed in a statement.
“As members of An Garda Síochána had engaged with people resident at a property where a woman subsequently died in suspicious circumstances, An Garda Síochána has referred this to GSOC for potential investigation,” they said.
“As the matter is currently with GSOC, it is not appropriate for An Garda Síochána to comment further.”
It has also been reported that Ms Ray’s killer was known to her.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward, particularly those who were in the St Joseph’s Park area of Nenagh between 8 p.m. on Saturday, August 3rd, and midday on Sunday, August 4th.
Two people have so far been arrested in connection with the murder.
