Co-leader of Social Democrats Catherine Murphy said the party is holding their own as the final tallies come in for this weekend's General Election.
Deputy Murphy, a candidate for Kildare North, is likely to be returned as a TD, as is her fellow party co-leader Róisín Shortall in Dublin North-West.
Deputy Murphy says they are expecting to make more gains.
She said: "It looks like we're in the hunt for four additional seats over those two as realistic prospects.
"We would love to get all four of them and have that platform to build from.
"It was a tough election in the context of obviously there was a gale blowing for Sinn Féin and you can get lost in that so I think we're holding our own."
A poll released by Ipsos MRBI on behalf of The Irish Times, RTÉ, TG4 and UCD last night put the party on 3.4%, a half-percent rise on 2016.
