Catherine Nevin has been refused permission to bring an appeal against her conviction for the murder of her husband to the Supreme Court.

The Court of Criminal Appeal has ruled there is 'absolutely no point of any merit whatsoever' in this latest attempt to wipe the slate clean.

It is now nearly 14 years since Catherine Nevin was jailed for life for the brutal 1996 murder of her husband Tom at their pub Jack White's Inn in Co. Wicklow.

Since then she has lost an appeal, a miscarriage of justice application and now this latest bid to bring her case to the Supreme Court on a point of law of exceptional public importance.

The point in question relates to garda documents that only came to light in 2008 in a tabloid newspaper under the heading "This is the top secret document the black widow hopes will free her from jail".

The Court of Criminal Appeal says the article is hysterical and exaggerated, while the document simply does not live up to its billing.

Presiding judge Mr. Justice Adrian Hardiman said Catherine Nevin's trial was 'perfectly' fair and he dismissed the application today as having 'no point of any merit whatsoever'.
