A Co Cavan teenager has penned a song to raise awareness of bullying.

Ruby O'Kelly also shot a music video for her track, 'You Won't Stop Me'.

The lyrics read: "I've been tossed around and I've fell down, I'm too frail to get back up so I just frown.

"This heart was meant to be broken and this mouth was meant for words unspoken.

"You won't stop me, cause I will fly someday".

"I will spread my wings and fly, not down here but somewhere high.

"The girl that I can see, she's waiting there for me - you'll never stop me, you did not stop me".

On the song, Ruby said: "At 12 years of age I had witnessed so much bullying, so many girls and boys my age struggling with their own mental health, struggling with everyday life things that should be simple and enjoyable like going to school.

"One night I begun to write these lyrics, then I added the music and created my first ever song.

"I'm so proud of it, but also proud of the important message in it

"You never know what someone is going through - be kind always".

"My mam used to tell me that in her day, it was always drugs that was killing kids - but now these days it's social media and bullying".

"If you see somebody on their own, go over to them - and if you see someone being bullied or picked on or someone calling a really mean name: it doesn't matter who it is (or) if you never got on with them before.

"It doesn't matter: bullying is bullying".
