The Ceann Comhairle has announced she will not recognise a Dáil group containing TDs who support the Government as members of the opposition for today’s proceedings.
Yesterday’s efforts to elect a Taoiseach were dramatically derailed by opposition parties who were furious with the decision to afford opposition speaking rights to TDs backing the Government.
In a bid to break the deadlock, Verona Murphy has written to the Dáil’s business committee to say she is seeking confirmatory legal advice on how to recognise the Regional Technical Group in the future.

Talks were held between the Government and opposition party leaders this morning but have broken up, with the opposition looking for a definite guarantee over speaking rights.
