A small protest is being held at the busiest tax office in the country this afternoon. 25 members of the Campaign Against Home And Water Taxes have chained themselves to chairs and radiators at the office just off O'Connell Street in Dublin.
Revenue says the office has been closed to protect staff and customers and Gardai are also at the scene.
In a statement it says "the Central Revenue Information Office, on O'Connell Street deals with over 1,000 callers each day. As our main priority is the health and safety of our staff and customers, we had to close the office".
It adds that it regrets the "significant inconvenience" caused to customers.
The Gardaí are also at the scene. Some 25 people are inside the office with another group said to be outside in support.
Ruth Coppinger is spokesperson for the group. She has spoken from inside the building.
