The 2025 Las Vegas Consumer Electronics Show proves there is a promising future ahead for VR technology, according to Newstalk’s Jess Kelly.
The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) takes place every year in Las Vegas in Nevada, America, with over 130,000 attendees flocking to the convention to see and experience the latest developments in the tech world.
Newstalk's Tech Correspondent Jess Kelly joined The Anton Savage Show to give an insight into some of the most impressive developments in the space.
“I saw a whole host of wearable glasses – so this is something that I’m very much interested in as a glasses wearing human,” she said.
“At the moment, the big player in this space is Meta, they have a partnership with Ray-Ban - but there was a whole section of one of the big halls dedicated to wearables being developed by companies that were founded by military personnel.
“They took the learnings of the military... and integrated that into lenses.”
Jess said that this technology is still to fully catch on but has a bright future ahead.
“Obviously, the likes of Apple and Meta and all the rest would love if it became the norm right now – but they are growing in popularity,” she said.
“At the moment, they’re very big in the gaming sphere – but if you can picture being in meetings, or even something like CES, being able to put on one of those headsets and interact with it.
“Before Christmas on The Pat Kenny Show, we had the MetaQuest 3Q – and I was blown away by it.
“I was able to do anything that I wanted to do for my job.”
According to Jess, one of the most ‘weird and wonderful’ things she saw at CES was an emotional support robot dog.

“There’s a company called TomBot, and they have developed what’s called Jenny,” she said.
“Now, Jenny is the image of a teddy bear that I had – and I still have – in my parent’s house, but this is an emotional support device.
“It’s been developed to give support and assistance to those who may have mental health issues or medical conditions such as dementia.
“It’s a companion device, and it can bark, it can wag its tail, it can snore as you cuddle it – and the idea is that it doesn’t have any maintenance requirements, it’s just there as a companion.”
Jess said the motoring side of CES ‘exploded’ this year, and promised a full breakdown of electric vehicle news on this week’s Tech Talk.
