The Foreign Affairs Minister Charlie Flanagan is set to meet with his Egyptian counterpart today to discuss the case of Ibrahim Halawa (19).
His trial was adjourned again in Egypt yesterday.
His family say he has been beaten and is in a very serious condition.
He was due to go on trial along with 450 others today - the sixth time he had been given a trial date.
Mr Flanagan is to meet the Egyptian Foreign Affairs Minister at a gathering in New York, where he is expected to express his disappointment over the teenager's case.
Mr Halawa, who is from Firhouse in Dublin, was arrested in August 2013 while taking shelter in a mosque from protests in Cairo.
On Friday, supporters of Mr Halawa handed in a petition to the Egyptian embassy in Dublin, calling for his immediate release from prison.
