JD Vance has been described as “knee high deep in cat poo” after a video emerged of him having a go at childless Democrats.
Donald Trump’s running mate complained the Democrats had foisted on the United States a Government of “childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made”.
He added this meant they wanted to make the “rest of the country miserable too”.
Senator Vance also said the “entire future of the Democrats” is controlled by childless politicians such as Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg and AOC.
In fact, Vice President Harris has two stepchildren and Mr Buttigieg has since become a father.
On The Hard Shoulder, columnist Ian O’Doherty urged people to take the remarks “with a pinch of salt”.
“I think if anybody was offended by that, they better strap themselves in because it’s going to be a very bumpy ride between now and November,” he said.
“I don’t know if you stayed up for Vance’s speech at the Republican Convention, it was bloody brilliant.
“By far and away, better than Trump’s speech.”
.@JDVance1: I said at the RNC Convention that I will never forget where I came from.

Mr O’Doherty described Senator Vance as a “fascinating” guy who would inevitably put his foot in it”.
“He’s proof that rumours to the contrary, the American Dream is still alive,” he said.
“He’s a kid who came from drug addicted parents in the Appalachians and now he’s running for the White House.
“Anyone who read Hillbilly Elegy - which is a fantastic memoir - they know just what an interesting context and driven guy he is.
“He’s also very funny.”
Journalist Valerie Cox disagreed and said she thought his remarks were “offensive”.
“You cannot say this is a joke because this is a man running for the Vice Presidency.
“You don’t make jokes like this; Ian said he’s going to put his foot in it.
“Well, in my view, he’s already knee high deep in cat poo at this stage.”
The Presidential election will be held on November 5th.
