A 7 year old boy and his 4 year old sister are to go into care for 4 days over concerns they were at 'serious and immediate' risk of violence or sexual abuse at home.

The parents agreed to sign the children into voluntary care following an application for an emergency care order by the Child and Family Agency at a late night District Court sitting.

Separate proceedings for an interim care order were initiated 2 weeks ago and will resume before another judge on Monday.

However lawyers for the Child and Family Agency argued the risk to the children became 'acute' this afternoon when their parents watched a dvd containing recent 'disturbing' disclosures of abuse from an older sibling who is in state care.

Lawyers for the mother said she was 'horrified' by the DVD's content and that she does not believe there was a serious or immediate risk to the children's welfare
