A boy (13) who murdered an Irish man in north London just before Christmas has been jailed for at least 11 years.

Christopher "Jack" Barry (53), originally from Cobh in Co Cork, was stabbed by the teenager as he tried to prevent a group of youths from entering his north London apartment block.

Mr Barry - who worked as a builder - was involved in a row with a group of five boys trying to get into a party at flats in The Broadway in Edmonton Green on the night of December 14th.

Mr Barry tried to stop the youths gaining entrance to the building, but two of them followed him and he was stabbed.

Mr Barry managed to get upstairs to his flat but he was pronounced dead 30 minutes later.

Police arrested five boys - aged 13 and 14 - at the scene, but four were released.

One was later charged with the murder of Mr Barry.

Last month, the 13-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to the murder of Mr Barry.
