A limit of two alcoholic drinks per passenger in airport bars would be "too severe", Ciara Kelly has said.

61% of people are in favour of a limit on the number of drinks served in airport bars, according to a Red C poll published in the Business Post yesterday.

Last year, Ryanair CEO Michael O'Leary said he would welcome the limit as a way to curb "aggressive behaviour".

Newstalk Breakfast presenter Ciara Kelly said today she thinks a two-drink limit in airport terminals would be "too severe".

"I don't want to be told I can't have a third drink at the airport," she said.

"Now having said that, I’m not somebody who has been involved in an altercation on a plane – I've never seen a bad altercation on a plane, I’m glad to say."

Ciara said, however, that bar staff at airports should not serve people who are already intoxicated.

"I most certainly think that the airport shouldn’t be serving people to the point of them being drunksort of falling around the place drunk or aggressive – take that as a given," she said.

"But who among us has had two drinks and is that person?"

'Unnerving'

Co-presenter Shane Coleman said people have different tolerances for alcohol, and for some, they "don't react well" to two drinks.

"I'm not passionately in favour of [a two drink limit], but I don't see how it would have an impact on 99% of people," he said.

"I think 99% of people don’t have more than two drinks at the airport.

"I will say this though, I have been on a plane where people are drunk and it is really unnerving."

Ciara said she is "in the minority" when it comes to her opinion on the drink limit and said it would be "too blunt an instrument".
