The coastguard has come to the rescue of a tourist who got trapped on a cliff edge on Howth Head.

The man, in his 30s, got lost on his way back from the beach this afternoon and ended up stuck beside a 50 meter drop.

The alarm was raised by a member of the public who spotted the man near Whitewater Brook.

The coastguard helicopter airlifted him to safety.

The man is said to be a bit shaken but otherwise in good health.
