Two men have been arrested under anti-gang legislation following the discovery of a large haul of cocaine, a handgun, ammunition, and cash in Limerick city.
Gardai made the discovery during planned searches of six houses, sheds and outhouses from 8:30am this morning in the Lower Gerald Griffin Street area.
Gardai said the operation targeted the activities of those linked to a city-based drug gang.
Two men, aged 26 and 37, were arrested under Section 72 of the Criminal Justice Act. They are being held on suspicion of participating in the activities of a criminal organisation.
They are being detained at Henry Street station under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act.
The garda searches this morning were as a result of a joint operation involving the armed garda Regional Southern Unit (RSU); the Limerick Divisional Drugs Squad; crime officers from Henry Street and Mayorstone stations - as well as community gardai.
