Fancy a nice hot alcoholic treat to fix you up during these cold winter evenings? Oisin Davis of Great Irish Beverages introduces us to another original creation from his recipe book.
Oisin says:
The Man Flu. One could debate whether it's just a made up exaggeration of the common sniffle or an annual seasonal epidemic that hits the not so fair sex. But either way, I've got the dreaded man flu and it ain't pretty. And as all we know, there can be only two cures - to sit around and bitch about it all day long to anyone who can be bothered to listen and to consume your fair share of hot whiskeys.
I have quite a substantial arsenal of hot whiskey recipes. Here's one that I go to that is especially effective for when one is under the weather, irregardless if you have man flu or the real one.
Cocktail - HONEY & GINGER HOT WHISKEY
Ingredients:
- 50 ml Jameson whiskey
- 15 ml ginger & honey syrup (recipe below)
- 5 ml lemon juice
- 100 ml boiling water
- 1 cinnamon quill
Method:
- Make the ginger syrup by combining equal parts chopped fresh ginger, honey and boiling water in a blender. Fine strain and bottle it.
- Heat a mug or hot toddy glass with some boiling water to heat up the drinking vessel, then pour it out.
- Pour the whiskey, syrup and lemon juice into the heated mug and stir it with the cinnamon quill. Then top it up with the boiling water and serve. Repeat til you feel better...
Oisin will be making the cocktail live on the Tom Dunne Show, tonight from 10pm
