The Minister for Communications will launch a new public consultation on process on free to air sports events today.

Alex White has extended the list of sporting and cultural occasions which would remain on terrestrial television if the proposal gets the green light.

The All Ireland Senior Ladies Football and Camogie finals have been added to the list as have all Irish appearances in the Six Nations Rugby competition.

The idea was initially raised by the former Minister and now leader of the Green Party Eamonn Ryan.

He says this latest move doesn't go far enough:
