Yesterday, the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform Brendan Howlin confirmed that he is rolling out a voluntary redundancy scheme in the public sector, the first of its kind - targeting workers in the HSE, education and agriculture.
But the Government is also considering compulsory redundancies, as talks on an extension to the Croke Park agreement continue.
The Government will deduct any savings made under this new voluntary redundancy scheme - from the one billion euro savings target being discussed at the Croke Park extension talks.
