Concerns are being raised about the potential for electoral fraud as huge inaccuracies have been found on the electoral register. That is according to research carried out by political analyst Odhran Flynn.

Looking at the upcoming vote in the Meath-East by-election on Wednesday following the last general election there were 8,000 too many people on the register for that constituency compared to census figures for 2011.

At a national level there were around 200,000 more people on the electoral register than listed in the 2011 Census.

Political analyst Odhran Flynn carried out the research. He says this leaves Ireland open to the potential for electoral fraud.
