Sinn Féin's spokesperson for health has condemned the methodolgy used in the HSE's report into the death of Savita Halappanavar.

Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin was speaking after her husband's solicitor said his client had expressed concerns about the investigation.

The 108 page review was given to Praveen Halappanavar on Friday to allow him the opportunity to go through it with his legal team and make alterations where necessary.

Savita (31) was 17 weeks pregnant when she was admitted to University Hospital Galway back in October.

She subsequently miscarried and died of suspected blood poisoning a week later,

Her husband has always maintained that his wife had requested a termination on several occasions before her death.

Deputy Ó Caoláin believes the scope of the HSE review into her death was too restricted and should have been extended.

“We have noted that Praveen Halapanavar is not happy with the Health Service Executive’s 108 page report.

“He has said it does not explain why his wife died, that not everyone gave or was compelled to give evidence and that there was no cross examination.

“His reaction reflects not only the deep-felt concerns of the Halapanavar family, but of many women throughout Ireland.

“The report fails to establish the full facts. The minister must not proceed to publish a report that fails to respect not only the views, but the deep-felt pain and hurt of the husband and family of Savita Halapanavar.

“He must employ every effort to ensure that their concerns are met and fully met before the report is published and this is something that must be done immediately.”

A full inquest into Savita's death will open in Galway on April 8th.
