A confidential letter has stated that a growing number of women are returning from the UK mid-abortion to deliver stillborn babies.
RTÉ's Prime Time revealed that letter from the Master of the Rotunda Hospital, Dr Sam Coulter-Smith, warned the Chief Medical Officer of the Department of Health about the trend last month.
The letter stated that a growing number of women who returned from the UK mid-abortion following a fatal foetal diagnosis are presenting at Irish hospitals to give birth to their stillborn babies.
The correspondence also sets out the two-step procedure for terminations in the UK, according to RTÉ News.
The number of women returning from the UK is believed to be small but the doctor stated the cases are occurring with increased frequency.
