Conor McGregor is attempting to introduce evidence alleging another man assaulted Nikita Hand the night he was partying with her.

The Sunday Independent understands that two witnesses have come forward with the allegation and have signed affidavits.

Last November, a jury found the multi-millionaire MMA fighter raped Nikita Hand in a Dublin hotel six years ago.

"There's going to be an almighty fight over whether this new evidence will be admissible," Mark Tighe from The Sunday Independent told The Anton Savage Show.

"We expect that there will be strong objections from Nikita Hand's side saying that the case was in the courts for some five years before it got on and actually [went] to trial and at no stage was any kind of other person suggested as causing the bruises," the journalist said.

If the evidence is deemed admissible, it could lead to a retrial.

"If it's not allowed, Conor McGregor still has other grounds of appeal," Mark said, "He is taking issue with the charge sheet given to the jury. It asked whether Nikita Hand had been assaulted, they wanted it to say sexually assaulted which they thought was a higher bar".

The journalist also said McGregor's team had issue with the way the judge summed up the evidence during the case, and the weight put on evidence given by Nikita Hand's colleague Danielle Kealey.
