Gardaí seized multiple incendiary devices close to where protests have taken place in Coolock in the past week.

They recovered the devices following searches of the Moatfield Avenue and Dunree Park areas on Tuesday, July 16th.

Seven glass and plastic bottles were found containing flammable liquid, along with several empty bottles and rags.

Gardaí also recovered several plastic bottles containing a mix of paint and oil, as well as packets of water balloons.

All materials have been sent for further examination.

The seizure comes after several days of protest and unrest surrounding a site in Coolock earmarked for asylum seekers.

Protests near the former Crown Paints site began last Monday – with five fires taking place at the property since then.

The fourth fire took place last night and was described as minor, with Gardaí reporting a small number of protestors at the site yesterday.

Over the last week, public order units were deployed at protests equipped with riot gear, batons and spray.

Several Gardaí have been injured over the course of the protests.

Taoiseach Simon Harris has condemned the incidents at protests, saying the concerns of locals in Dublin “can never be conflated” with violence.

Mr Harris believes “the scenes in recent days do not represent the community in Coolock”.

“[They are] a good, decent community and working cross-party is important on this issue,” the statement said.

Unrest in Coolock

Gardaí said they “respect the right for citizens to exercise their constitutional rights” - but “this right does not extend to breaches of criminal law, the interference with the rights of other citizens to carry out their daily activities, or to attack members of An Garda Síochána”.

An incident room has been established at Coolock Garda Station as Gardaí collect CCTV footage and social media images for further investigation.

Gardaí have appealed for anyone who has witnessed these incidents to come forward.

They are particularly interested in anyone with dash-cam footage on the Malahide Road between 9am and 8pm or anyone who “may have observed incendiary devices”.
