A large crowd gathered outside Coolock garda station in north Dublin this evening to undertake a protest in the form of a silent vigil. The protest was against the tactics used in policing of Irish Water protests in recent weeks.
Approximately 200 women stood along the Oscar Traynor Road outside the station in silence, holding a candlelight vigil.

The Garda Ombudsman (GSOC) today confirmed to the Irish Examiner that it is investigating 16 formal complaints against gardai in relation to water charge protests. These include complaints of assault and a neglect of duty.
The majority of the incidents are alleged to have occurred in north Dublin over the past two months.
A number of complaints are being examined regarding alleged incidents between protesters and gardai at Coolock garda station a fortnight ago, when it was alleged by protesters that gardai had used pepper spray. At the time gardai would neither confirm nor deny the use of pepper spray on protesters.
