An investigation is continuing into the unlawful killing of a man in Cork city centre.

The body of the man in his sixties was found in a rubbish chute at Garden City Apartments on Northgate Street at half five on Monday evening.

Gardaí have asked for help from the public in formally identifying the man, although they say they have already made some progress towards naming him.

The dead man is described as between five foot five and five foot six in height, of slight build, with white-grey hair and a moustache.

He was wearing a beige fleece top, black t-shirt and beige trousers.

Gardai want to speak to anyone who may have seen a man fitting this description in the North Main Street or Bachelor's Quay areas between last Saturday and last night.
