Gardaí have launched a murder investigation into the death a two-year-old girl in Cork City yesterday.
The girl was found with serious injuries after emergency services were called to an apartment in the Elderwood Apartment complex on Boreenmanna Road in the early hours of yesterday morning.
She was taken to Cork University Hospital where she died from her injuries.
This morning, Gardaí confirmed that they have now launched a murder investigation.
Deputy State Pathologist Dr Margot Bolster carried out a postmortem examination yesterday; however, the results are not being released for operational reasons.
Door-to-door inquiries were carried out at the apartment complex and the surrounding areas yesterday.
The apartment will be preserved over the weekend ahead of further forensic examinations.
Investigators are continuing to appeal to anyone who was in the area between 4am and 6am today, and who has not already spoken to them, to come forward.
