Two teenagers have been arrested in connection with a serious assault on a man in Cork city overnight.

The man who is aged in his late 20s or early 30s was discovered on the street on Ballyhooley Road shortly after 1 am this morning.

He had serious head injuries. The two men were arrested shortly after 9 am this morning in the Mayfield area of the city.

They are being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

The scene has been cordoned off and garda technical experts have begun a forensic examination.

Officers have yet to establish the identity of the victim. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Mayfield garda station.
