Live music venue and nightclub The Pavilion in Cork made a shock announcement on twitter earlier this afternoon that it would be shutting it's doors "as of now."
Sadly we are closed as of now. We did our very best. Thanks again

The tweet went out to some 7,000 followers earlier today and has caused serious shock and surprise among the public and former performers and staff at the venue.
Thanks for all the good times. To our brilliant staff, all the bands, djs and of course you. We know you loved the place as much as we did!

The Pavilion was known for hosting young Irish bands and DJs, as well as much bigger names. It has seen acts ranging from Hozier to Franz Ferdinand and even Kanye West grace its stage.
The public and staff have taken straight to social media to express their disappointment at the closure of one of Cork's major nightlife attractions.
@ThePavilion So sorry to hear that one of the few venues in Cork where the music mattered has closed. It's a shame.

My first stop everytime I returned to Cork was @ThePavilion for a lovely cuppa and a chat. I'll be lost next time I get back there!

Sad to hear @ThePavilion is closing, proud to have played there a few times, gigs that were gr8 craic & sound. Best of luck to the staff.
