Residents of a Cork housing estate were evacuated overnight as the Army bomb squad performed a controlled explosion on a suspect device outside a house.
Over 30 locals were reportedly evacuated while the Ordnance Disposal Team investigated the device.
The evacuation came after Gardaí were called to reports of a gun being fired in the area shortly after midnight.
Investigators found the device shortly after they arrived and began to seal off and evacuate the area.
The Irish Defence Forces bomb squad was called in and they carried out a controlled explosion.
The evacuated residents have since been allowed to return home.
There are no reports of any injuries or damage and the scene remains sealed off for a forensic examination.
The Garda investigation is ongoing.
