There have been 1,318 new cases of COVID-19 in Ireland.
The total number of cases since the pandemic began has now surpassed 200,000.
A further 75 deaths have also been reported today - including 46 which occurred February, 27 from January, and two from earlier dates.
The figures released this evening show today’s new cases include 428 cases in Dublin, 122 in Cork, 93 in Galway, 78 in Kildare, 77 in Limerick and the rest spread across all other counties.
Of the deaths reported today, the median age of those who died is 84 - with the ages ranging from 34 to 100.
Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan said: "We know that the over 70s have suffered the greatest burden of mortality and serious illness from COVID-19.
"Ireland is now in a good position: we can now offer highly effective and safe vaccines to this cohort.
“Over the coming weeks, we will see many more of our vulnerable loved ones receive their COVID-19 vaccinations."
He was speaking after the HSE said it was working to revise its vaccination rollout to older people, after advice that the State should use the Pfizer and Moderna jabs over the AstraZeneca where possible when vaccinating older people.
Meanwhile, there were 1,284 COVID-19 patients in Irish hospitals this afternoon, including 188 in ICU.
The national 14-day incidence rate has now fallen below 400 per 100,000.
