There have been another 16 coronavirus-related deaths in the Republic.
51 new cases of the virus have also been confirmed today.
A total of 1,561 people have now died since the outbreak began, while the total number of cases now stands at 24,251.
Today marks the fourth consecutive day where the number of new confirmed cases has been below 100, with 51 representing the lowest number recorded since mid-March.
Figures released today showed 36,818 tests were carried out over the past week - with 932 (or 2.5%) being positive.
Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan said: "“The National Public Health Emergency Team will meet again this week.
"Given the decreasing positivity rate and that testing capacity has been expanded, we will be examining the case definition further.”
The release of the figures this evening follows the first full sitting of the Dáil COVID-19 committee earlier today.
The secretary-general of the Department of Health told the committee the acute phase of the coronavirus crisis will be measured in 'months and probably years'.
However, Jim Breslin also said there has been "definite progress in getting virus levels back down through stringent public health restrictions".
