Of today's new cases, 76 were in Dublin, 27 in Donegal, 22 in Kilkenny, 16 in Galway, 14 in Louth and the remaining 87 cases were spread across 18 other counties.

Meanwhile, latest figures show 223 COVID-19 patients were being treated in Irish hospitals as of 2pm this afternoon.

Of those patients, 28 were being treated in intensive care units.

The national 14-day incidence rate of the virus has now fallen to 80.4 per 100,000, with the highest rate reported in Donegal (232 per 100,000).

Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan said the seven-day incidence rate is 'ticking upwards', even while the 14-day rate is going down.

However, he said both rates are the lowest Europe 'as things stand at the moment'.
