There have been 527 new cases of COVID-19 confirmed in the Republic, according to the Department of Health.
Five further deaths associated with the virus have also been reported in the past 24 hours.
The latest figures bring the total amount of cases here to 78,776, while the number of coronavirus-related deaths stands at 2,154.
The numbers are reflective of the denotification of five confirmed cases of the virus.
Of the latest cases, 65% are under 45 years of age, while the median age is 37 years old.
Regarding the nationwide distribution of cases, 191 are in Dublin, 54 in Cork, 44 in Donegal, 32 in Wexford, 27 in Kilkenny, and the remaining 179 cases are spread across 20 other counties.
271 are men and 255 are women.
As of 2pm today, 207 people are now receiving treatment in hospital for the virus after 12 new admissions in the past 24 hours.
Of those patients, 28 are in ICU, down from 34 yesterday.
The 14-day incidence rate per 100,000 of the population now stands at 102.4.
Dr Tony Holohan, Chief Medical Officer at the Department of Health said: "The figures we are seeing across all key indicators of disease severity continue to give us strong reason for persistent, ongoing concern.
"As we head into a week with uniquely risky inter-household and inter-generational mixing, please remember to act responsibly. Start this weekend.
"It is never too late to cut down your contacts, cancel plans, or avoid a crowd.
He added: “Bear in mind that you may well be the link in a chain of transmission that ends with a vulnerable loved one catching this dangerous disease.
"Stop that chain of transmission now – limit your movements today.”
Meanwhile, 604 new cases of COVID-19 have been recorded in Northern Ireland in the last 24 hours.
There have also been 17 additional deaths reported by the Department of Health there, four of which are outside the 24-hour period.
Meanwhile, the Restaurants Association of Ireland is seeking an urgent meeting with the Government over proposals to close the hospitality sector after Christmas.
The Government is expected to choose December 30th as the closure date while at the same time restricting home visits to one other household.
However, travel between counties will likely be allowed to continue until January 6th, with NPHET's recommendations due to be discussed by Cabinet on Tuesday.
