It has just been announced by Opel that they will be unleashing an OPC version of their new Corsa at the Geneva Motor Show in March. As can be expected this little Corsa will come with a line of interesting statistics and figures.
This fast hatchback will benefit from the revised technology, design and chassis that we have seen in the new Opel Corsa which was released to the Irish market at the end of November 2014. The biggest difference will be what’s under the hood of the OPC. We’re told that it will offer 207hp and up to 280Nm of torque from their 1.6litre turbocharged engine. Unlike the usual Corsa we see on Irish roads, this little machine will be capable of giving owners 0-100km/h in just 6.9 seconds, and the reported top speed is 230 km/h.
One surprising figure which came from Opel this that it only burns 174g/km of Co2. We’ve also been told that this car could potentially use 7.5 l/100km in fuel.
The ride height of the car has been lowered by 10mm all round. Opel has used Frequency Selective Damping (FSD) to aid maintain body control when the car is driven fast.
Bi-xenon lighting will adorn the exterior and there will be a choice of six colours. The front-end design has larger air intakes and the side-sill extensions also enhance the credentials of the Corsa OPC. To the back is a rear spoiler and twin Remus exhaust pipes.
“Our OPC models are the dynamic spearheads of our car ranges. They reflect Opel’s sporting heritage, epitomise quality German engineering, emotional design and distinctive driving dynamics. It also demonstrates how high the bar has been set in this segment.” commented Dave Sheeran, Managing Director, Opel Ireland.
